When you're motivated ...
Exping doesn't bore you at all. You can kill monsters whole day and still not feel psychically exhausted. Leveling your char is considered a pleasure. You think of it as of having fun. You do it naturally and don't need to push yourself.
You try to use your time best. Using all of the time you have isn't enough. You also care about how you use it. The common question you ask yourself is "how can I get most of it?" You don't waste time standing in depot or making runes. You optimize your training and check new hunting grounds. You keep socializing with friends a lot, but you do that when you train or wait for spawn.

You make long-term plans about being a high lvl. You feel excited about the future because you know it'll bring you more fun. You can't wait for new hunting grounds, team hunts, quests and PvP. Even if you're a low lvl now, you know you'll get there someday. You already see it in your mind. You keep playing until that becomes reality.
Powergaming is fun and easy.
There surely were times when you were short on motivation. Perhaps after a streak of deaths? Maybe you experienced severe lags? Did you feel that way after you lost a lot of cash or got hunted?
When does your motivation go to hell?

When you're unmotivated ...
Powergaming seems pointless. You consider it a waste of time. It's something so boring that it's surely not worth doing. You prefer idle socializing while making runes, showing your eq at depo chest or helping your friend hunt trolls.
You literally get bored out of your mind after a short hunt. You're so focused on staying in the cave despite the inner resistance that you hardly ever pay attention to the effectiveness. You don't look at the exp per hour rate and you don't mind if you forget to retarget a slime for 10 minutes.

Your primary activity is making excuses for not improving your character. The most common are 'The cave is taken', 'I'm laggy'. 'I THINK the cave will be taken so I won't bother to check'. This just sounds like now's not a good time to hunt. It's easy to trick yourself into thinking that you'll lvl up when "the time is right".
You also make even lamer excuses. I'm talking about the sort of "I'm not a no-lifer". You fool yourself by thinking that powergamers have no life and they're all fatty nerds with glasses and pimples living on soda pop and farting on the pc chair 24/7. You don't wanna be THAT, do you? ;
