Have you ever felt really motivated? Do you remember a time when hunting seemed natural and effortless?
How did you feel about Tibia in times of your greatest powergaming? Perhaps this is how you feel right now?
When you're motivated ...
Exping doesn't bore you at all. You can kill monsters whole day and still not feel psychically exhausted. Leveling your char is considered a pleasure. You think of it as of having fun. You do it naturally and don't need to push yourself.
You try to use your time best. Using all of the time you have isn't enough. You also care about how you use it. The common question you ask yourself is "how can I get most of it?" You don't waste time standing in depot or making runes. You optimize your training and check new hunting grounds. You keep socializing with friends a lot, but you do that when you train or wait for spawn.
You make long-term plans about being a high lvl. You feel excited about the future because you know it'll bring you more fun. You can't wait for new hunting grounds, team hunts, quests and PvP. Even if you're a low lvl now, you know you'll get there someday. You already see it in your mind. You keep playing until that becomes reality.
Powergaming is fun and easy.
There surely were times when you were short on motivation. Perhaps after a streak of deaths? Maybe you experienced severe lags? Did you feel that way after you lost a lot of cash or got hunted?
When does your motivation go to hell?
When you're unmotivated ...
Powergaming seems pointless. You consider it a waste of time. It's something so boring that it's surely not worth doing. You prefer idle socializing while making runes, showing your eq at depo chest or helping your friend hunt trolls.
You literally get bored out of your mind after a short hunt. You're so focused on staying in the cave despite the inner resistance that you hardly ever pay attention to the effectiveness. You don't look at the exp per hour rate and you don't mind if you forget to retarget a slime for 10 minutes.
Your primary activity is making excuses for not improving your character. The most common are 'The cave is taken', 'I'm laggy'. 'I THINK the cave will be taken so I won't bother to check'. This just sounds like now's not a good time to hunt. It's easy to trick yourself into thinking that you'll lvl up when "the time is right".
You also make even lamer excuses. I'm talking about the sort of "I'm not a no-lifer". You fool yourself by thinking that powergamers have no life and they're all fatty nerds with glasses and pimples living on soda pop and farting on the pc chair 24/7. You don't wanna be THAT, do you? ;
You're not addicted!!
First step towards motivation is to realize that you're not a no-lifer. There is a major difference between having no life and powergaming. Playing well doesn't mean playing all the time.An addict plays Tibia by far too much. He prefers to stay online than to go out. A powergamer doesn't play as often as an addict, but uses his time much better. He can still have an awesome real life. When he logs into Tibia though, he's doing the best he can to enjoy the game fully.
Think about it in another way. You already play Tibia, don't you? Then, why not play it great? If you can feel motivated, it's fun and easy anyways.
You can make a bp of Avalanche rune or hit 100k exp striking with them. Which one sounds more fun? Why not feel excited about the game you play?
Get your ass into the cave
And may the rest of the body follow.
But hey! The cave is taken!
So what? Find another one. How hard could it be? If you care, you'll always find a spot. If you want to make excuses, you'll give up when the first cave you visit is taken.
The common excuse is that 'you don't know the way around the caves'. Well, guess what? NOBODY DOES before he actually goes there. What are you afraid of anyways? You're not gonna die if you explore a spawn designed for your level.
The deal is that when you're motivated, nothing will stop you from finding an empty cave. If you're not, you don't even want to find one. Why don't you pretend you are and go get yourself a hunting ground?
Get some music
If you want to survive a long hunting session, get yourself some sound! Tibia doesn't have it ;) Download your favorite music and run it in the background.
Have some variety. Change the songs and bands often. Music is a huge part of motivation.
Try new hunting spots
How can you not bore your ass off if you hunt scarabs through 30-70lvls? To stay motivated and optimize your exp per hour you need to keep testing new hunting grounds.
There will be days when you don't feel bloodthirsty. Go hunt skeletons then. Other times you'll feel like killing something furry. You can go Banuta to do so. Variety is the way to go!
Get an exp counter
I personally consider exp per hour counter as an extremely effective effectiveness booster. With it, I always do my best while hunting. It's much better to have an idea of how fast you exp. You feel compelled to make it just a bit higher. % bar moving once per hour won't do. Brain wants numbers jumping every second.
Exp counter is included in two trustworthy free bots : TibiaAuto and Tibia Black Ice. Take your pick! You're not gonna be detected by a GM just by making some calculations.
Use your level
If you want to be motivated to become a high level, you need to give yourself a reason to be one. Use your char. Have some fun! You won't be motivated unless you feel how cool it is to have a strong character.
You and I both know that the best fun you can have is PvP combat. Get yourself a cool team, maybe win some wars ;)If you prefer something safer, organize quests and team hunts.
Enjoy your char and you'll want to become stronger to enjoy it more!
Have goals on writing
Your mind can be very easily fooled to stay motivated. For it, there is a huge difference between talking and writing something down.
If you have your goals on writing, you'll feel naturally more motivated to pursue them. Open some text file and set a deadline for becoming xx level no matter what. Have it written and review it daily. Sounds silly but hey! I don't give a shit! It's 30 seconds per day so get right to it!!
Plan quests with level req.
The best motivator to hit 100lvl is forming an Annihilator team with friends. Plan quests before you meet lvl requirements. This is a great motivator - if you slack off, you'll have to explain yourself to your teammates.
Sign up on forum for Banshee Quest, Demon Helmet or PoI when you're a few lvl's lower than required. Promise the leaders that you'll make it and ask them to add you. This will push you to the cave.
Watch movies of h-lvls having fun
Movies of strong chars doing fun shit make you feel motivated. You look at those 200lvls slaying bosses and you instantly want to do it too.
Most interesting movies are wars, team pk, quest clearing, creative ways of hunting in team and exploring new areas and quests after update.
Compete with friends
A good way to keep yourself and your friends motivated is to make a competition. See which one of you can reach certain lvl or skill faster or who will complete Anni first. Make cash bets to spice it up a bit. Have fun =)
It's cool to compete with your friends because you're glad no matter if you won or lost. If you won - you have a strong char. If you lost - you have a strong friend.
Go public
Post the screenshots of your advanced somewhere. People will watch you and encourage you to go for it. You'll be motivated to exp because you don't want to let them down.
There are several places you can post your advance screenshots on. For Polish readers I recommend tibia.pl blogs. You can literally have your own blog about your Tibian life. For English speaking dudes Tibiacity forum is the best place. For botters, post in botter project section of BlackD Tools forum.
Make friends with powergamers
It's quite hard to be motivated to improve your character if you're going to leave all your 20lvl friends far behind.
Seriously, get yourself some powergaming or high level friends. You can talk with them about advanced gameplay. More importantly, you feel motivated when you see them enjoying their higher levels.
Get a guild with lvl req
The best way to make friends with high levels is to join a guild with level requirements. Join the one you barely fit into.
It's so much more motivating to be the lowest lvl in h-lvl guild than it is to be the highest in low-lvl guild. If you barely meet the requirements, you powergame because you're scared of getting kicked.
Talk to the leader before you meet the requirements. It's nice to do a first impression. Maybe if he sees how fast you lvl up, he'll let you in sooner.
The more things of the described above you do, the more motivated you'll be.
Different things motivate different people. If you're a competer, compete! If you're an attention seeker, make your success public! If you're a "have fun" kind of guy ... what are you gonna do? :) HAVE FUN!!
Remember that you'll automatically make up excuses why you shouldn't follow this guide. This is a perfectly normal thing when you're unmotivated. Just ignore the 'why not's and do it anyways!
Good luck and stay motivated!
